Kindness from strangers:

I believe that one subtle aspect of no killing (all beings including insects) in Buddhism is not to kill the goodness within the heart of anyone.

Endless gratitude to the warm hospitality, gracious concern, prompt receptivity of those who publicly or privately gave time to the post: Being the (small) change I wish to see in the world and related requests - to peacemakers: Mr. Orlando de Guzman, Jr., Mr. Emmanuel Astillero and Mr. Reynaldo Lopez;  to Sr. Angelita Walker, Ms. Josefina Artiaga, Vipassana Batch 19, Facebook, Sir Jim and Ms. Shanti, Mr. Vic Hao Chin, Ms. Myla Ricafort, Sangha  Online, Canossian Daughters of Charity, Sr. Nancy Tagle and others.

May you all continue to be of beneficial service to all.

Meanwhile, I am considering the one from Ifugao discussion group, a native of Banaue whose series of emails still make me cry and seem to adapt to the practice I am aiming.

Let me share the mentioned emails.  Omissions are to protect the person's privacy.

In one discussion group, I posted:  Greetings.  Do you know anyone in Banaue, Ifugao where I may live and meditate in the mountains? And after sometime, I received:

Mng,

I thought perhaps you could help this fellow with her inquiry or refer her to any reliable sources. Thanks

Regards,

Hi G... and Elena,

There has to be a good reason why we are connected in this way?

I like to offer my place (what I was going to develop as a butterfly ranch before I moved to the USA). It is situated in ....,Banaue, along the trail going to.... The elevation is about 1200 meters above sea level. It has a beautiful vista, including some terraced rice-fields. Across this place is an unexploited waterfall, at the foot of Mt..... I actually use this waterfall  as my point of entry when I journey (thru meditation) to the underworld or skyworld.

You may use  the building for your abode. Although it is not built for dwelling, at least you will be under roof. Or you may set up a tent if that is what you want to do.

Please contact my sister... or her daughter .... My sister's CP is ... and A..'s is .... They both live in Banaue ..., near.... A... is a volunteer nurse at the ... in Banaue. My parents live in ... (along the road going to ...) at my house. You are welcome to stay at my house too. You may just print this email to serve as my introduction for you to my family.

Good to hear from you G.... I am still brooding on that terraces and shamanic documentaries.

Elena, good to meet you and feel free to email me directly and tell me more about you if you feel comfortable. I am a Tai chi and Qigong practitioner/instructor, and practice energy medicine using different modalities including Kolaimni (similar to Reiki, Pranic healing, and Quantum Touch), Sound, Color, and Crystals.

Peace,

M...

Thank you for giving more information about yourself.

The reason why G... emailed me about your inquiry is that there is not a lot of Ifugaos who practice Buddhism/Taoism. In fact, I don't know anyone. I had been practicing Tai chi and Qigong, which are meditative in nature and follows a lot of the Buddhist and Taoist principles, for ten years. I use a lot of the mantras that the Buddha himself developed. I spent the last two years studying energetic healing. In this regard, I understand what you are trying to achieve. I continue to work on balancing my own body-mind-spirit myself.

The place that I mentioned is isolated. It is more or less 3 kilometers away from the village. As I mentioned, however, it is situated along a trail (now widened into a road) that goes to a far flung village called .... It is a good 30 minutes walk from my house, where my old parents live.

I will call my parents and explain to them your offer and condition, and see what they think. My thinking right now is that you can basically live by yourself; tilling your own garden. I own probably a hectare of land, mostly wooded. One tenth of a hectare, where I built the butterfly house, is an abandoned rice-field. I grew some vegetables there in 1990, while developing it as a butterfly farm/ranch. There should be no problem for you to get some supply of simple foods that my parents eat, particularly rice. I owned a few paddies of rice-fields that my sister, who did not go to college, and my parents live on. You may help them at your convenience. Your helping them to earn your food is not necessary, unless you want to learn our traditional way of farming rice.

How long are you planning to spend in the area? Do you have any inclination of helping people heal themselves?

My suggestion is for you to visit the place and get a feeling. I often picture myself going home and live a monk-lifestyle myself; growing herbs and vegetables, and help heal people in need. It is still a possibility. So, because of this not so remote dream, I may even send some money to make the place inhabitable for you. Talk to you later.

Peace,

Please just address me ...
